11  How to reach your child’s teacher:  Voice mail, call the school and dial “0” or the teacher’s mailbox number (519-884-9590)  Board email, same general format: first name_last name@wrdsb.on.ca. 14  Seek parenting resources.  Ex: Parent Tool Kit(Ontario Directors of Education, online version available)  Look through the WCI planner. Have them explain and record their long and short range plans for school work.  Pay attention to homework: help them learn problem solving and understand their thinking with probing questions.  Keep them healthy, good food and sleep are essential.  Pay attention to their stress level. Listen to them and involve others if safety is a concern.  Communicate with their teachers. GENERAL TIPS TO HELP YOUR CHILD ADJUST TO HIGH SCHOOL

17 QUESTION Gaps in Learning? Homework? Programs: AP, Magnets, Special Education, VIP? ANSWER Spiral curriculum, teacher adjustment, special case exceptions. Less subjects, faster pace, in-class time, reasonable timelines still needed. Proper Implementation! Full year options, either scheduled or co- curricular. MOST COMMON QUESTIONS
