My Mistakes?
Buying High, Selling Low.
Trading with my gut.
Listening to others and trusting them without understanding their methods or reasons.
The Results?
I was trading too large – Potential profits blinded me to actual risk.
I didn’t know my exits – I didn’t have targets, I got greedy and didn’t sell when I should have.
I was riding the “hope-ium” train that it might turn around. -- I didn’t cut when I should have.
How did I fix the problem?:
I decided that the money was only “lost” if I didn’t learn from having lost it.
I joined a KeeneOnTheMarket.com’s trade room so I wasn’t trading alone anymore and that I could get source for new ideas from a community and Andrew and James.
I just NEEDED my own technical tools that I understood, that could give me an edge...

I came across Auction Market Theory, using the value area (70% of the volume weighted trading range) from the previous day as a guide for day-trading the /ES. Trading the market profile, etc.
But I didn’t just want to trade the /ES… I wanted to know if it could work on other things, and beyond day trading…
Weekly? Monthly? Yearly?
Other futures?
Equities??
In testing these methods, I noticed that /CL was weakening (breaking below yearly value) in September last year. In October I started shorting around 88.…. I stopped at 45.

7. Trading Value (not price!) – A Real World Example
Say I want to buy a new car….
I go on TrueCar.com and I get this chart of all the reported sales, So I know what everyone else has bought it for, what the average price is, etc.
A) I find a dealer advertising the car brand new for $33.5k – Great!
B) I find all dealers advertising the car brand new for $25k – Wait what?
What happened to the value of the car? Something’s changed! Do I still want to buy it? Is $25k the right price??
C) I find all dealers advertising the car brand new for $45k – Wait what?
Why is it so expensive now? Do I still want it? If I don’t buy it now, will it cost more later??

8. Trading Value (not price!) – A Real World Example
By knowing the car’s “value area”, I know: what everyone else bought it for, what’s a good price, what’s a steal, and at what price I’m the sucker at.
But also knowing the value area, I can recognize when the price is outside of range and more actively participate in price discovery:
Below value: How low can I buy it for? I’ll wait to find out.
Above value: How low can I buy it for? How high will the price go? I can’t wait, but the seller can!
