Desertification The Sahara is growing. As a result the amount of land that can grow food is decreasing This and related periodic droughts cause famines and food shortages in the countries along the edges of the Sahara.

Religious conflicts Along the southern edges of the Sahara conflicts between Muslims from the desert The original animist tribal religions Christianity form the South Has caused horrific conflicts in: Sudan/South Sudan…civil war and genocide Mali…civil War Central African Republic…Muslims kill/abuse the Christian major/ Christians kill in revenge Nigeria … radical Islamists Bko Haram fight to end Western Ed. … Killing and kidnapping girls.

Poverty Sub-Sahara Africa is the poorest part of the world for several reasons Lack of Development before colonization Colonization which resulted in: – export economies in which wealth flows out of the country – resources and the best land were given to just a few who were usually European Corruption: After independence corrupt political leaders took control of resources and became rich leaving the population poor.

AIDS AIDS originated in Africa In the year of 1999 & 2000 alone more people died of AIDS in Africa than in all wars combined! More people have AIDS in Africa than in the rest of the world combined! Diseases such as TB are common in Africa and make the AIDS crisis worse by as those who get both die. Some Governments have fought back but in too many funds meant to fight AIDS have been Embezzled those funds!
