A few question for you to work on…
19
Spreadsheets can make math easy! Example: Let’s say that you have 5 green skittles and Chad has 1.8 times more green skittles than you; how many green skittles does he have?
20
Entering formulas 1. Click on an empty cell.
21
Entering Formulas 2. Type =(notice what you type goes in the formula bar.)
22
Entering Formulas 2. (cont.) Enter your formula. For us enter “5*1.8”.
23
Entering formulas 2. (cont.) Press enter
24
REMEMBER… + Is for addition - Is for subtraction * Is for multiplication / Is for division Also remember that before any formula you must enter an equals sign (=).
25
A few questions for you to work on…
26
Entering formulas 1. Select cell A-7 and type “Total”
27
Using formulas with data 2. In cell B7 type “=B1+B2+B3+B4+B5” and press enter.
28
Using formulas with data Notice that when you click on the values you want to add up is puts in the name of the cell.
29
Let’s find the average 3. Select cell A8 and type in “Average”.
30
Using formulas with data 4. To find the average number of skittles per color we must divide the total number of skittles by the number of colors (5).
31
Using formulas with data 5. Select cell B8. We already found the total in B7, so in B8 type “=B7/5” and press enter.
32
Interesting…very interesting Notice that if you change the number of any color you had, the total and average change automatically.
