Endocytosis The process of taking in materials or liquids into a cell. 2 Types: Phagocytosis Pinocytosis

Phagocytosis The process of engulfing and ingestion of solid particles by the cell. The materials fuse with the lysosome and is then digested. The engulfed material is digested or degraded and then released by exocytosis. Also called “cell eating” .

Pinocytosis Material will be dissolved in water and thus
this process is also referred to as "cellular drinking" to indicate that liquids and material dissolved in liquids are ingested by the cell. This is opposed to the ingestion of large particulate material like bacteria or other cells or cell debris
