Entrance Requirements BS or BA degree Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores No specific course requirements, but the following are strongly recommended: Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry, Psychology, Sociology Other suggested courses: Cell Biology, Anatomy, Physiology & Microbiology No specific major is required South Carolina residency is a primary admission consideration. Out-of-state students with close SC ties are considered.

Admission Timeline Submit AMCAS application and MCAT scores (June 1 - November 1) Submit MUSC Secondary Application and letters of recommendation (July 1 – December 15) Applicant Interviews - by Invitation only (early September – mid-March) Admission Decisions (October 1 – mid March) Early Decision – August 1st deadline (3.5 GPA required)

Selection Criteria Interview Process Approximately 425 applicants are interviewed annually Three interviews each – Committee member, basic science or clinical faculty, outside physician Interviews begin the first of September and continue until the first of April

Interview Ratings: Traits That Make a Good Physician Principles – integrity, confidence inspiring Judgment – approaches problems in a logical fashion, flexible in thinking, mentally quick Empathy – Concerned about others, understanding type of person, idealistic, compassionate, a desire to serve Ego – emotionally stable, able to take criticism and learn from others, aware of his/her strengths and weaknesses Motivation – enthusiastic about a career in medicine, conscientious in his/her work Personality – calm in critical situations, a good communicator, considerate, courteous, tactful, creative and imaginative
