8 The Chinese in Kolkata Calcutta is known to have the first and only Chinatown in India. The Chinese have contributed to the city with skilled carpentry, quality leather shoes, silk, tea, food and much more! From more than 26 000 in 1941 to less than 5000 Chinese currently residing in India (Xing et al, 2013). The city is losing its cosmopolitanism, history and multi-cultural heritage.
