Section A: Theoretical Evaluation of Production  You will have to answer two questions based on your coursework.  The first requires you to describe and evaluate your skills development over the course of your production; from Foundation to Advanced.  The second requires you to select one production and evaluate it in relation to one theoretical concept.

3. Question 1a) The focus of this evaluation is on the development of your skills and the question will require you to adapt this to one or two specific production practices. The list of practices to which questions will relate are: Digital Technology Creativity Research and planning Post-production* Using conventions from real media texts. Questions will be posed using one or two of these categories. * This is quite a vague term - you will be assessed on your understanding of this term as well as your answer itself. For film, your post-production is editing, any addition of special effects including sound effects. It is basically anything that you add or alter digitally after you've done the actual filming. For print, your post-production is the editing of any original images or font - again something you've altered after taking the original image. You MUST explain to the examiner what your understanding of post-production is before you begin your analysis. You have to write about the foundation portfolio AND advanced portfolio.

Question 1b) The list of theoretical concepts that you may be asked to evaluate your production in relation to is: Genre Narrative Representation Audience Media language (we learnt about this at the beginning of the year) This will involve you revisiting theories you learnt with Mr J Now you have to choose which of your coursework pieces to write about. Which will fit the question the best?

5. Assessment Objectives AO1: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of media concepts, contexts and critical debates, using terminology appropriately and with accurate and coherent written expression 15% AO2: Apply knowledge and understanding to show how meanings are created when analysing media products and evaluating their own practical work. 10% Highlight the key words within these assessment objectives. Now, rewrite them in your own words so that you understand what it is that the examiner is looking for.

6. Example question for 1a Step One: Identify what the question is asking you to do. Step Two: Identify what examples from your coursework you can use to answer this. Step Three: Plan out the structure of your essay. Work from Foundation ---> Advanced. You are looking at how your skills have developed – so there should be progression.
