2 Highlights as of 17 December, 2014  Reported Cases 18,603 (11 Dec = 17,942; up by 661; Less compared to previous week)  Reported Deaths 6,915 (11 Dec = 6,388; up by 527; High compared to previous week)  Overall CFR = ~37% (05 Dec = 36%)  Highest number of cases in 45+ age group; four times more likely to be affected (slide # 5)  Case incidence  Fluctuating/Study in Guinea  76 new confirmed cases were reported nationally during the week to 14 December  Overall Proportion: 22 cases and 14 deaths per 100,000 population  Study/Declining in Liberia  6 districts reporting new confirmed or probable cases in the week to 14 December  Overall Proportion: 197 cases and 83 deaths per 100,000 population  Increasing in Sierra Leone (Now highest # of Cases Reported)  327 new confirmed cases reported in the week to 14 December  Overall Proportion: 145 cases and 36 deaths per 100,000 population  The UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) targets of isolating and treating 100% of EVD cases and burying 100% of EVD related deaths safely by 01 January, 2015, continue to progress in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone  All 3 countries have:  Sufficient capacity at a national level to meet both targets, though local variations means capacity is still insufficient to stop transmission in some areas  Access to a laboratory within 24 hours from sample collection.  Reported that more than 80% of registered contacts associated with known cases of EVD are being traced, although contact tracing is still a challenge in areas of intense transmission and in areas of community resistance.
