1 A Step by Step School, Noida initiative

2 Step By Step School, Noida
Step by Step School ,Noida is a school with a vision to provide a holistic education to every child. Here, individuality is nurtured and students are encouraged to explore new avenues. Opportunities to think, explore and take initiative are provided and the school fosters an atmosphere of creativity and sensitivity to society.

3 Problems of Road Safety
. The No Horn, Please! initiative was undertaken after a lot of research by our team of grade 12 students on neighborhood traffic and road problems. The idea was to focus on spreading awareness and educating both adults and the younger generation, about Road Safety and its importance.

4 The No Horn, Please! initiative
A group of Grade XII students decided to undertake the challenge of educating the community about Road Safety within the community. We drafted proposals for a Road Safety Week in school and decided to culminate our initiative with a Run for Road Safety, inviting residents of the area and students of neighboring schools. .

5 The Questionnaire

6 Results of the Questionnaire
37% of the children had 50% or lesser knowledge of Road Safety. The average percentage of correct answers for the road sign quiz was 53% Almost 78% of children had family members who had broken road safety rules.

7 Facebook Page

8 Developing a Logo To appeal to the children visually, a team of students worked on designing a logo as the face of the No Horn, Please! Initiative

9 The 2 Faces of No Horn, Please!
By unanimous decision, we decided to keep two logos – one which was culturally relevant to Indian society and in Hindi, while the other we decided to use on t-shirts and car stickers.

10 Awareness Posters In addition to the Facebook page, we also designed posters and put them all across the school to promote our initiative.

11 Designing T-shirts To foster the spirit of unity for the initiative, we transferred the logo onto t-shirts which we are distributing during the school PTM.

12 Initiative at a school level
Road Safety Week 11th – 16th May, 2015 Initiative at a school level Road Safety Week was a week long amalgamation of various activities and competitions for classes 6-12 in order to bring the issue to their notice

13 Click of the Day Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow To make students aware of the real world and the small everyday acts where road safety rules are essential, a photography competition was held. The students had to capture either an instance of violation of road safety or compliance to the rules.

14 Road Safety Quiz

15 Slogan Writing Classes 6-8 made slogans for Road Safety. Their creativity was then showcased across the school

16 Poster Making We further held poster making activities in classes of middle school to help make younger students aware of the issue with the help of Art. The children enthusiastically made colorful signs about Road Safety.

17 Creative Writing Our other talented middle school students wrote essays, stories and poems on the issue of road safety and its importance.

18 Debates .

19 Senior School Perspective (Debate)
These debates were held in every class of grade 9 and 10 to help exchange views of students on road safety and its different aspects Through these debates, the children learnt the complexity of road safety and the different viewpoints on the same.

20 Senior School Perspective ( XI-XIIDebate)
Highlights included: “Rage is a sentiment – Sentiments cannot be criminalized” “Every other day, the newspaper headline reads ‘Another Road Rage Death’- What do we do about that?” “Do existing laws suffice?”

21 Crossroad Corridors

22 Nukkad Naatak ( Street Play)

23 Initiative at a community level
A Run for Road Safety 23rd May Initiative at a community level This run is organised for the purpose of reaching out to the community near our school as we feel that not only students, but also their families should be involved for maximum impact.

24 Background An underpass in front of the Panscheel Balika Inter College is a part of the commute of many students. This is how the idea struck us. A talk with the street vendor who sits there everyday informed us that an accident (collision of two cars, pedestrians getting hit and cyclists falling off) was a daily affair.

25 Purpose We, as students, felt that we could initiate the change this area needs. Thus, along with our team, we have collaborated with a local NGO who could provide their expertise in finding solutions for the area.

26 The Road Ahead Run for road safety is, hence, an initiative to inform the community about the area and spread awareness. We aim to have a signed petition by the local residents to support our plea to the Noida authorities to implement our solutions.

27 Working with the local authorities
Recognizing that the initiative we had undertaken, required some guidance, government permissions for use of public areas and police presence to maintain order and adhere to safety standards we approached the Safe Road Foundation – a local NGO, who helped us procure sponsors for the Run. The student-in-charges of No Horn, Please! then met with the City Magistrate to get all required permissions.

28 Solutions Proposed Putting up traffic signals
Roundabout: This will surely provide a better solution as it will control and organize the traffic, and also slow it down at the accident spot. In both the cases, a Divider on the road under the pass and on the in-coming roads are necessary since that will avoid the drivers cutting the corners (prime cause of accidents at that spot).
