2 (TECHNICAL EDUCATION QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME)
TEQIP (TECHNICAL EDUCATION QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME) To improve the overall quality of existing Engineering Education. TEQIP Goal: To scale‐up and support ongoing efforts of the GoI to improve quality of Technical Education and enhance existing capacities of the institutions to become dynamic, demand‐driven, quality conscious, efficient and forward looking, responsive to rapid economic and technological developments occurring at the local, State, National and International levels. 4/17/2017

3 PROJECT National Policy: Phases:
The TEQIP Project has been implemented in pursuance of the National Policy on Education (NPE‐1986 revised in 1992) through MHRD of the Government of India as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to improve the overall quality of existing Engineering Education. Phases: TEQIP was envisaged in 2003 as a long‐term Programme of about 10‐12 years duration to be implemented in 3 phases for transformation of the Technical Education System. As per TEQIP concept and design, each phase is required to be designed on the basis of lessons learnt from implementation of an earlier phase. 4/17/2017

4 TEQIP‐I TEQIP-I started a reform process in 127 institutions. The reform process needs to be sustained and scaled‐up for embedding gains in the system and taking the transformation to a higher level. CET, LBSCE Ksd, NIT etc. were the participated colleges. TEQIP‐II To continue the development activities initiated through TEQIP‐I, a sequel project is planned as TEQIP‐II. The Project duration shall be for four years (2010‐2014). A total of 220 Institutions are participating in the Project. GCE Kannur, GEC Wyd, CAPE colleges, etc are among the participants 4/17/2017

5 TEQIP-II: Project Objectives:
The Project focuses on the following objectives: Strengthening institutions to produce high quality Engineers for better employability, Scaling‐up Postgraduate Education and demand‐driven Research & Development and Innovation, Establishing Centre of Excellence for focused applicable research, Training of faculty for effective Teaching, and Enhancing Institutional and System Management effectiveness. 4/17/2017

6 Project Design: The Project is composed of following Components :
Component ‐ 1 : Improving Quality of Education in Selected Institutions Component‐2: Improving System Management 1.1 : Strengthening institutions to improve learning outcomes and employability of graduates 2.1 : Capacity Building to Strengthen Management 1.2 : Scaling‐up Postgraduate Education and Demand‐ Driven Research & Development and Innovation 2.2 : Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation 1.2.1 : Establishing Centre of Excellence 1.3 : Faculty Development for Effective Teaching (Pedagogical Training) 4/17/2017

7 Participating Institutions :
1.1: A total of 113 participating institutions i.e. [8 Centrally Funded + 82 State Govt./aided Private institutions] 1.2: A total of 77 institutions i.e. [18 Centrally Funded + 45 State Govt./aided Private institutions] are participating in the Project. Thus a total of 190 Institutions (113+77) in both Sub- components are participating in the Project. 1.2.1: A total of 30 Centers of Excellence (CoEs) i.e. [06 in Centrally Funded + 11 in Govt aided Private Institutions]. 4/17/2017

10 The Project require the project institutions :
Academic reforms: To implement academic and non‐academic reforms for their self‐conceived development programmes that focus on quality and relevance, excellence, resource mobilization, greater institutional autonomy with accountability, research and equity Pedagogical Training: To impart Pedagogical Training to faculty for making teaching effective and will cover maximum faculty members from the project institutions. 4/17/2017

11 The Project require the project institutions (Contd…)
Development programmes: Professional development programmes for engineering‐education policy planners, administrators and implementers at the Central, State and Institutional levels will be organized. Systemic governance: The Project will also support development of an effective systemic governance model. Social Impact: The benefit of this aspect of the Project will also be extended to faculty from non‐project institutions. 4/17/2017

12 Monitoring and evaluation.
The monitoring will focus on : Implementation of reforms by institutions, Achievements in project activities, Procurement of resources & services, Utilization and achievements in FSD and management development activities 4/17/2017

13 Monitoring and evaluation.
The monitoring will be based on: Action plans of each project institution, Achievements made on a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) The information collected through a scalable web‐based MIS. Monitoring will be done at different levels Board of Governors (BoG) will monitor the progress and provide guidance. State Governments/SPFU regularly evaluate the progress of institutions. The Government of India and the World Bank will conduct bi‐annual Joint Reviews of the Project with assistance from the NPIU. 4/17/2017

1. Share of eligible Programmes that are accredited /applied. 2. Percentage of institutes with Academic Autonomy 3 (a) Increase in regular faculty with Masters degree in engineering disciplines, measured above baseline (b) Increase in regular faculty with Doctoral degree in engineering disciplines, measured above baseline 4. Faculty position filled 5. Increase of publications in the referred Journals 6. Transition rate of students from 1st to 2nd year of UG 7. No. of Masters and Doctoral students enrolled with TEQIP funds 8. IRG as % of total annual recurring expenditure 4/17/2017
