We’ve carefully selected what we think all teams need to know. We have until 9 March to prepare Toolkit available in ‘standards and compliance’ section of web site Staff guide – logistics of inspection launch Jan We wanted to introduce something that was sustainable in the long term – contributes towards self regulation

How we will be inspected - CQC Core Services
Two Provide Handbooks which offer guidance – we can guess where we will be inspected – but we won’t know until a couple of weeks before

Scoring rating – 4 bar Ofsted style
Each core service will be scored Aggregate rating gives overall organisation rating

CQC’s 5 Key Questions – Key Lines of Enquiry
Are your services safe? Are people protected from abuse and avoidable harm? Are your services effective? Does people’s care, treatment and support achieve good outcomes, promote a good quality of life and based on the best evidence Are your services responsive? Services are organised so they meet people’s needs Are your services caring? Are staff treating patients with compassion, kindness dignity and respect Are your services well-led? The leadership, management and governance of the organisation makes sure the delivery of high quality person-centred care, supports learning and innovation and promote an open and fair culture. 5 Key questions staff need to be familiar with – this is what the inspectors will be asking about Ensure all staff are familiar with this

The ‘Step up’ approach to preparation
Our time to shine ALL teams complete STEP #2 Checklists STEP #3 Peer review of selected Compliance Frameworks Agreed by Line Manager STEP #4 Quality visit Agreed by Governance Lead Step up process – acknowledges that all teams are in different starting positions and will prepare to a different degree All staff Step 1 & 2 Should be informed by current quality performance systems

STEP #1 OUR TIME TO SHINE All teams have a discussion - focus on how you have improved your patient’s experience and the quality of care What are we most proud of ? What do your patients say about your service? These checklists can be down loaded separately from the e source in word Staff can write on them or type on them Teams own these when they are completed ? Regular visit ? Review ?

STEP #2 CHECKLISTS All teams focus on the five key lines of enquiry:
SAFE EFFECTIVE RESPONSIVE CARING WELL-LED If risks are not being adequately managed = STEP #3 OR STEP #4 Identify strengths and weaknesses. Become familiar with what the CQC inspectors will look to validate when/if they visit your service. 5 Key questions – all teams complete ? Entries onto risk register ?
