6. What is energy efficiency? Energy efficiency is the ratio between the useful output of an energy conversion machine and the input, in energy terms. The useful output may be electric power, mechanical work, or heat. Our definition? Using less energy to provide the same service. Fact: 100 million homes, or 80% of US houses, are built with no regard to energy efficiency!
