PhD tuition fees and costs The New Zealand Government provides an automatic “scholarship” to international students who are accepted onto the PhD programme: You will pay the same fees as a New Zealand student (i.e. the government provides approximately 80% of your tuition fees) In 2014, the PhD fee is NZ$6,253/year (approximately 30,000 Yuan) Approximate living costs in Auckland are NZ$20,000- 25,000/year (95,000-120,000 Yuan) depending on your level of expenditure.

Other benefits Right to work while you study. Your spouse/partner is eligible for a work visa. Your dependent children will receive the same schooling benefits as NZ children. Upon graduation, apply for a one- year Post-study work visa (open). If you find employment you may apply for a two-year Post-study work visa (employer assisted).
