10 Start with an Hour of Code
What can you do? Start with an Hour of Code. Last year, we unveiled the Hour of Code: a grassroots campaign to recruit ten million students to try their hand at computer science — to break stereotypes and to remove the veil of mystery that surrounds the field. The campaign blew past its goal in days and has now reached 44 million students worldwide.

11 The Hour of Code is a first step in showing all students what computer science is all about and proven way to increase participation among underrepresented groups. Last year, 1 in 5 US students did an Hour of Code. Almost half of all Hour of Code participants were girls, 8% were black and 14% Hispanic. Computer science students on average are only 18% female, 3% black, and 8% Hispanic.

12 Hour of Code Tutorials Free, online tutorials, that teach drag and drop programming Branded characters plus “celebrity” lectures Hour of Code 2014: Frozen Angry Birds Plants vs Zombies Bill Gates Mark Zuckerberg see Students of all ages can choose from a variety of self-guided tutorials, from kindergarten up. Tutorials work on any modern browser, tablet, smartphone, or even with no computer at all. Code.org’s own tutorial features Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies and video lectures from Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates.
