7 Subordinate Conjunctions Reason: because I study hard because I want to succeed. Time: before, when, after, while I will phone you when I arrive. Contrast: although I went to the university although I am sick. Condition: if I will buy you a present if you get good marks.

9 Compare: a.I suffered a lot because of my accident. b.I suffered a lot because I had an accident. preposition subordinate conj.

10 The place of the dependent clause In the middle: Sara always gets A’s because she studies hard. At the beginning: Because Sara studies hard, she always gets A’s.

11 Another example: In the middle: We went home after the party ended. At the beginning: After the part ended, we went home.
