Creating User Profiles in EBSCOadmin Tutorial support.ebsco.com

EBSCOadmin gives you the ability to create your own user profiles, allowing you to customize the databases, collections, limiters, expanders, search screens, and other features your users see within EBSCO interfaces.

For example, you may wish to set up separate profiles for middle school and high school students. Using EBSCOadmin, you can create these separate profiles and assign the appropriate databases to each one, ensuring users at all levels are able to find the information they need.

To begin, click on the Profile Maintenance link.

Next, click on the Add a New Profile link.

Fill in the Profile ID and Description fields to identify the new profile and select the Interface you wish to use from the drop-down menu. In this demonstration, we create a new EBSCOhost profile to which we will add databases useful to middle school students. Click Submit, then click the Back to Customize Services link.

Next, you must add databases to the new profile. Select your new profile from the Choose Profile drop-down menu and then click on the Databases sub-tab.

From the Disabled – Internal Databases list, you can add the databases that are appropriate for your profile. In the Enable column, click the On radio button for each database you would like to enable. If you would like to set any databases to be selected by default, you can do that in the Default to Selected column.

After making your selections, scroll down to the bottom of the database list and click Submit.

You can customize your new profile’s search settings from the Searching sub-tab. For example you can set the default search screen and style of advanced search. See our Customize Services tutorial for tips on how best to use the many features and settings included under this tab.

EBSCO also offers a number of custom branding options that seamlessly integrate your EBSCO subscription with your online library resources. For example, you can include your institution’s logo and colors. See our Branding tutorial to learn about how to take advantage of the many customization features available.

For more information or assistance with the options available in EBSCOadmin, contact Customer Support or visit the EBSCO Support Site. You can also click the Help link to view the complete online User Guide.
