The California Kaiser Collaborative The BUSM/Kaiser Collaborative is being developed to offer BUSM students the opportunity to train in one of the most technologically innovative health care systems in the country, and to expose students to Kaiser’s successful integrated health care delivery system

ADMINISTRATION AND LOGISTICS Office of Student Affairs Paige Curran designated as POC for support, career planning, and fourth year schedule planning Simulation training – working with Lorraine Stanfield to complete during orientation We will establish a Behavioral Health Referral POC in CA Registration Student responsibilities include: Register for BU alert system Natural emergencies – participate in Kaiser preparedness training BU Email – monitoring and responding appropriately MA Motor Vehicle Waiver – still applies for those living in CA; can’t register without it Maintain immigration status Student health – be aware of insurance coverage Financial Aid Dennis Murphy, case manager, will be the financial aid POC Financial aid will include Kaiser students on all regular email correspondence and also maintain a separate email list for Kaiser-specific concerns

STUDENT APPLICATION Stipulations: Housing for BUSM students while on rotation in California will be the responsibility of the student. Students chosen for this program will need to meet all financial aid commitments by mid-February. Only students in good academic standing will be considered for this program. Essays: On a separate sheet, please answer each of the following questions in 100 words or less per question: Why are you interested in the Kaiser Permanente clerkship opportunity? How do you feel that this experience will enhance your medical education?

DIDACTICS Working to record all didactic lectures this year Recording didactics for the benefit of both Kaiser students and those remaining on BUMC (as is done in years 1 & 2) Students at Kaiser will attend didactic sessions virtually through Microsoft Lync when the time change does not present a problem Clerkship Directors will talk with Kaiser site directors about supplemental educational experiences Students will have the same amount of time built into their schedules for didactics as students completing rotations in Boston or at other clerkship sites
