This could be demonstrated in a variety of ways including drawing / painting (analytical / abstract), 2D/3D work, photography etc. All Design e-folios should include a variety of drawing techniques. If you are applying to Communication Design, you should show skill in the following areas: Graphics, Illustration, Photography. If you are applying to Silversmithing & Jewellery, you should show strengths in both drawing and 3 dimensional work.

4 2. Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills We are interested in the concepts and ideas behind your work how and how they progress and develop; from the initial starting point / source of inspiration through to a finished piece of work. Design is all about ideas – you must show the concepts and ideas behind your work. (Your Advanced Higher theme may be one of them or may be the basis of a wider theme) At least 5 out of the 15 images uploaded should show development work (sketchbook pages or development sheets) Do not include lots of magazine cut outs, photocopies etc Analytical - Looking at something in depth. If you are analytical, you are good at taking a problem or task and breaking it down into smaller elements in order to solve the problem or complete the task. Conceptual skills involve knowing how to and being able to formulate ideas. Individuals who have strong conceptual skills typically have excellent abilities to think creatively and solve problems. People who have conceptual skills can examine how ideas are interrelated. They effectively perceive individual elements in relationship to the whole.
