2 Initial Training Introductory Teacher Training Core Training Sub in Good Standing At the core of our Smart Sub System is our 20 hour Introductory Teacher Training. Composed of five courses and exams, the Introductory Teacher Training covers leadership and professionalism, classroom management, instructional strategies, and working with diverse populations. This training is typically completed by substitute teachers before they begin to take assignments. Over time, substitute teachers who remain in good standing with their districts are then given periodic Refresher Trainings to keep them up- to-date. Update Training Refresher (1 or 3 course) Refresher Training

When a substitute teacher receives a complaint, he or she is directed to complete the Tier 1 extension training. Typically, that’s all they need. Refresher Training Core Training

4 If a substitute teacher receives a second complaint, after completing the Tier 1 training, he or she is directed to complete the Tier 2 extension training. 5 Quantitative Evidence Don’t just take our word for it! Our training programs have been used for both initial and support training in New York City for the past three years. After two years, they conducted a study and found the following: “During that time [two years], 95% of the newly processed staff who took the training have not been cited for one incident of inappropriate behavior, poor classroom management or ineffectiveness. Of those staff members who were assigned the training as a result of performance issues, 90% have been incident free. The training provides a significant amount of materials to prepare these employees to be the best substitutes possible."

6 Our Smart Sub System covers the entire spectrum of professional development needs for the life-cycle of your substitute teachers’ employment with you. You can be sure that your employees are always prepared. 3 Strike System It allows districts and agencies to easily implement a 3 strike system for removal from the eligible substitute teacher pool, while still offering abundant support that increases employee retention and success.
