Cindy, Peiyan and Chen By Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Sense  A sad, lonely, confused person.  Not much going on in the poem  Barely doing anything  A strong negative word “Dead”  “Grief”  -the only direct sense of depression in the whole poem.

Imagery  My knees my forehead was,  My lips, drawn in, said not Alas!  My hair was over in the grass,  My naked ears heard the day pass.

Figurative language  In the first stanza, there is repetition of the word 'wind' in line 1 and 3, this is showing the repetition of the trees swaying from side to side.  There is personification in stanza 2 and 3, and the things he says make it seem like he's losing control of himself because he's so distraught.

Tone  “Walking at wind’s will”  Directionless, aimless  Eyes fixed upon 10 weeds  “My” “My”  “From perfect grief there need not be  Wisdom or even memory;”

Structure  Rhyme scheme: aaaa, bbbb, cccc, dddd  4 Stanzas

Emotion  Emptiness  Nakedness  Vulnerability

Intention  A very precise and delicate description of the depressed people.  Too depressed, too shocked to think or judge anything at all.  All that remains is the little woodspurge
