7 Certain animals may not be eaten at all. This restriction includes the flesh, organs, eggs and milk of the forbidden animals. Of the animals that may be eaten, the birds and mammals must be killed in accordance with Jewish law. All blood must be drained from the meat or broiled out of it before it is eaten. Certain parts of permitted animals may not be eaten.

8 Meat (the flesh of birds and mammals) cannot be eaten with dairy. Fish, eggs, fruits, vegetables and grains can be eaten with either meat or dairy. (According to some views, fish may not be eaten with meat). Utensils that have come into contact with meat may not be used with dairy, and vice versa. Utensils that have come into contact with non- kosher food may not be used with kosher food. 9 Use your Kosher foods sheet to draw pictures with short text which tells Jews some of the rules about eating food and how your kitchen should be organised. Then you must decide on whether the following foods are kosher or not. You must give a reason in the right box

12 Design a poster on A4 paper which helps an 8 year old to understand the rules surrounding the preparation and eating of food. Your poster must : show which foods are kosher (acceptable) and which ones are not acceptable (non-kosher). show how a Jewish kitchen should be organised eg sinks, cutlery, pans, plates etc. Shows how Jewish food should be eaten e.g which dishes can’t be eaten together

13 Tasks : Title ‘Kosher Food’ 1.Make two lists of animals under the titles of Kosher Food and Non-Kosher food. 2.Describe how a Jewish kitchen is different to a non- Jewish kitchen 3.Onto a full page of your book design a menu for a Jewish person to eat in a restaurant. Remember to stick to the kosher rules.
