3 Why Do We Communicate? 2. To make decisions Ex. Presidential debates help us to choose what candidate we will vote for.

4 Why Do We Communicate? 3.To inform Ex: Announcements are made to inform students about current school events Ex: News broadcasts give us important information.

5 Why Do We Communicate? 4. To resolve conflicts or problems  Ex: a student may use an email or telephone conversation to resolve an argument with his girlfriend  A husband and wife discuss how to discipline the kids!

6 Why Do We Communicate? 5.To meet social and physical needs Ex: students hang out with their friends on the weekend. Ex: Going out to dinner with friends.

7 Why Do We Communicate? 6.To Persuade Ex: A salesman uses persuasion to convince you to buy a new car. Ex: A public speaker asks you to support a specific cause or organization.
