Exercise 4 in both the Core and Extended papers is a note-making activity. This means that you read a text, take important information from it and with the information in note form.
3
In the Core paper there are 6 marks for this exercise, while in the Extended paper there are 8. Each correct note is given one mark.
4
There are no big differences between the two papers. The text is exactly the same, and the task you have to complete is also the same. The only difference is that in the Core paper you need to find six points, whereas in the Extended paper you need to find eight points.
5
Task: Read the speech by the mayor of a large city who is talking about his ideas to encourage recycling the waste that we currently throw away. You are a reporter writing an article about the mayor’s speech. Prepare some notes to use as the basis for your article. YOU NEED TO FIND THE INFORMATION IN THE TEXT AND TRANSFER IT TO THE NOTE-MAKING FORM, BELOW THE CORRECT HEADING. YOUR ANSWERS HERE SHOULD BE SHORT AND DO NOT HAVE TO CONTAIN A VERB.
6
Keep your answers short and make sure they make sense. Make sure you only write one point ( piece of information) on each line. Do not repeat the same information, even if you use different words. Read and underline the section heading before reading the text. Transfer information carefully. In the Core paper only, Exercise 4 is linked to Exercise 5. It is your reading skills that are being tested, not your writing skills.
