Background to the project  Provider workshop Nov 2013 Identified common themes  ICES Care Homes Guidance project commissioned April 2014 to review the current guidance  Working group of representative stakeholders – met May 2014+

Purpose of the guidance The purpose of the guidance is to outline the principles regarding the provision of community equipment via the Integrated Community Equipment Services (ICES) to adults living in care homes with or without nursing.

Key Principle Adults living in CQC registered care homes with or without nursing have the same access to the provision of community equipment via ICES, to meet their individual assessed need as those adults living in their own home.

Key Principle Provision of community equipment via ICES will be based on the outcome of an assessment, of an individual, carried out by health or social care practitioner who is an authorised ICES Prescriber, so long as it is to meet an identified assessed need which is eligible for community equipment provision via ICES.

Equipment provision guide 1. Care Homes (CH) – Care Homes with or without Nursing provide a range of equipment for use by residents. This equipment is used or shared by any of the residents at any time within the care home setting. This equipment is the property and responsibility of the Care Home.

Equipment provision guide 2.Integrated Community Equipment Services (ICES) – equipment provided via ICES is for the exclusive use by a specific named individual living in either a Care Home with or without Nursing. The provision is based on the outcome of an assessment, carried out by an authorised ICES Prescriber, to meet an identified eligible need. Where assessed as needed, provision should be arranged via ICES. In these cases, the equipment will not be shared with another resident because it is on loan from ICES to that individual.
