How to get published in the NGWA publications Groundwater and Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation

Groundwater Henk Haitjema, Ph.D. Editor-in-Chief Groundwater

Groundwater The leading international journal focused exclusively on groundwater. Emphasis is on presentations of theory with practical applications. Topics include:  Groundwater flow and well hydraulics  Hydrogeochemistry and contaminant hydrogeology  Geophysics  Groundwater management and policy

Groundwater Have a contribution such as: A new (unexpected) finding: Research Paper A new method: Methods Note An innovative application of an existing method: Case Study Pape An in-depth review of what has been published on a topic of interest Review Paper A unique perspective on an important issue in the field of groundwater: Issue Paper

Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation Neil R. Thomson, Ph.D., PE Editor-in-Chief Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation

The leading publication in the field of groundwater monitoring and cleanup. The focus is on: Data collection and analysis, new technology, and new model development Advances in the groundwater monitoring, management, and remediation

Groundwater Monitoring & Remediation Have a contribution such as: Significant research findings with impact: Cutting-edge technical articles Analyses of new data, descriptions of innovative sampling and analysis methods Technical Note Fast-breaking developments that warrant rapid communication Rapid Communication Implementation of new technology, or innovative approaches Practical Application

Clearly state the contribution Clearly, but concisely, state your contribution in: The cover letter to the Editor-in-Chief The Abstract The Introduction The Conclusions Your contribution must be of interest to a broad international audience for it to be competitive for publication in high ranking journals like Groundwater or GWMR. A case study of a local groundwater problem may be of great value to readers in that area or country, but is often not of sufficient interest to an international readership to warrant publication in Groundwater or GWMR.

The Review Process The Editorial Boards reject approximately 35% of submissions outright. Based on external reviews, another 30% of submissions are rejected as well. Primary reasons for rejection (in order): 1.Lack of a meritorious contribution 2.Poor organization of the manuscript 3.Poor use of English

What is a “meritorious contribution?” Something not already known or done! Make sure to review top ranking journals in the field of groundwater. When submitting to the journal Groundwater or GWMR, search for related contributions in Groundwater or GWMR at Wiley Online Library. A final note: A research project that leads to an excellent masters thesis does not necessarily qualify as a meritorious contribution to Groundwater or GWMR.
