NJSBA Search Process (6 C’s) – Criteria Qualifications in the Advertisement Identify to the applicants what the district is looking for Guideline to measure alignment of applicants’ qualifications to district needs. Used by consultant to weight the pool of applicants – meets criteria, exceeds, does not meet. 4 Open-Ended Application Questions Allows for personalization of the application to include areas of importance to the district to further identify those applicants who best meet the district’s needs. Provides insight into the applicant’s writing style. Staff and Community Input Criteria from the staff and community input sessions/surveys are a resource for determining: who will be selected for an interview, what interview questions will be asked, and who will advance through the interview process.

NJSBA Search Process (6 C’s cont.) Confidential - - throughout the process to protect candidates and maintain search integrity. All board discussions and interviews are bound to confidentiality through the Code of Ethics. Consensus- inclusive process seeking community, administrative, and staff input. The Board of Education is legally charged with making the employment decision after reviewing applications, interviewing, reference checking and site visits. Input forums staff with the staff and community help support development of interview questions and selection criteria. Contract- support and training by NJSBA Labor Relations Department on the legal and allowable aspects of the contract. Continuity- NJSBA staff sponsors Board/Superintendent training to support the transition to a new superintendent and to promote effective district governance and communication.
