TEACCH and Visual Supports in the Classroom

Student Checklist Students have a daily schedule that has pictures. It is laminated and students check off each subject as it is completed throughout the day.

Visual Schedule The schedule is written out by period number and time. The schedule next to it gives the period/hour of class. It also has a visual of what subject the students will be in or what special they will be at.

The daily agenda for the day is written for all students to see.

Relaxation Area with Clear Boundaries
The students’ relaxation area is set apart from the classroom. It is in the corner of the room and has boundaries set by the book case in the picture on the right. In this area, students can read, play games, color or use the Leap Frog.

Additional Visual Supports
Visual reminder of appropriate behaviors such as keeping hands to oneself versus hitting, and yelling versus being quiet.

Thematic Unit The thematic unit is on one of the bulletin boards.
The students are learning about space and planets. In the classroom, there are also puzzles, games and additional materials to enrich the unit.

Start to the Morning…. Whoever’s name is first in line order is in charge of the date and weather report for the day (names have been covered for confidentiality). The student checks the weather and changes the stickers. They also change the date each day. The student also has to say “Attention please” to get the classes attention. They read the information on the board to the class.
