3 READING COMPREHENSION & WRITING APPLICATION FACTORS…  Short-response questions are designed to assess Common Core Reading and Language Standards. These are single questions in which students use textual evidence to support their own answer to an inferential question.  These questions ask the student to make an inference (a claim, position, or conclusion) based on his or her analysis of the passage, and then provide two pieces of text-based evidence to support his or her answer. 4 SAMPLE 2-POINT SHORT RESPONSE QUESTION… What is the main purpose of the 2015 Test Guide? Provide two text-based details to support your answer. Sample Response: The guide is designed to help teachers prepare students to be assessed on their master of the CCLS for ELA. The guide provides an overview of the CCLS for ELA and specific information about how the CCLS for ELA will be assessed, including Blueprint and Question Formats.
