7 ACTIVITY CLASSES  Three courses selected:  Must have adviser’s approval  Focus on sports/activities where you are NOT very skilled.  In addition to the 3 required activity courses, we STRONGLY recommend that you take one additional 1-unit activity class each semester!  Skills tested in KINE 306: Tennis and Swimming  If you pass, select other courses (they still need approval). If you don’t pass, take KINE 154A (S) and 156A (T).  Swimming: Front crawl, Back crawl or backstroke, Sidestroke, Breaststroke, & Treading water  Tennis: Forehand ground stroke, Backhand groundstroke, Lob, Volley, Serve, & Game play

9 HOW DO I BECOME A TEACHER?  After the BA, enrollment in a 1 year Credential program  Two semesters of teaching in the schools and night courses  Apply last semester of BA. Usually March 1st and October 1st deadlines (check w/EDUC department)  Must also apply to graduate school (apply on-line)  CSU-Chico Credential program prerequisites:  BA and Subject Matter Competence (SMC)  ENGL 471 and EDTE 302  Candidate Disposition Form  CBEST  Observation hours and other prerequisite courses built into the PETE program (about 9 units saved, you get CREDIT for the courses you have completed in PETE)

10 SUBJECT MATTER COMPETENCE  State requires competence in your subject matter by degree or test. You get it by:  Completing the BA in PETE (w/ 2.75 GPA in major or cumulative 2.67 GPA). No lower than “C-” in any PETE courses  Or pass the CSET for Physical Education (No feedback, expensive…)  Or take CSET if you don’t meet GPA requirements  How do I get it?  Must request form from Catrina, then letter in P-1.

11 C-BEST  Take as soon as possible, must pass by EDUC application deadline  Description???

12 CANDIDATE DISPOSITION FORMS  Completed for every candidate, -must request from Catrina.  Description?? What is it and why do we do it?

15 SUPPLEMENTARY AUTHORIZATIONS  A Supplemental Authorization for an Introductory Subject allows you to teach this subject through 9 th grade level if you have a valid teaching credential in another subject area (i.e. P.E.).  Please ask your adviser for details about English, Math, Science, Social Science or any other Introductory or Specific Subjects.  20 Lower division or 10 Upper division units, C or better

17 PETE MAJORS’ CLUB  Get involved!!  Conferences: SHAPE America in Seattle, Spring break!  Go to PETE club meetings! Look for announcements.

18 OTHER PROGRAMS  Inspire: (description)  TA Opportunities is Content Courses (306, 308, what elses?)  BeWELL  Kids Play?  What other opportunities do students have in the program?

19 TIME TO DECLARE!!  Fill out form.  Inform department about intent to complete minor if applicable.

20 ADVISING  Be prepared!  Read all advising sheets and materials before asking questions  Degree Audit  Why?  How?  Make sure you declare PETEBA, or your course requirements will not show up.
