Reviewing Domain 2: Classroom Environment Key Points: The “classroom” isn’t just a room with four walls. Organizing space to match learning goals. Focuses on the affective – how a learner feels about him/herself and school. How the “classroom” community interacts with one another. Speaks to our beliefs about the students’ abilities to learn and setting high learning expectations.
9
Reviewing Domain 3: Instruction Key Points: Student Engagement is the most important component. Student Engagement = Brain Sweat Brain Sweat = Rigor “Time on Task” is NOT the number of activities we give the learners. It IS about challenging them to think.

Off-Stage Behaviors Groups 1 and 3: Describe the critical, behind- the-scenes work of planning and organizing for classroom instruction/service delivery. Groups 2 and 4: Describe the other behind-the- scenes work of the teacher; commitment to high ethical and professional standards; & to continuous improvement of their practice.
12
Documenting Domains 1 & 4 Skills in Domains 1 & 4 are demonstrated primarily through means other than observation. What are some ways to document performance in each domain?
13
Reviewing Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities Key Points: Often we do not take the time to reflect on how the educational decisions we make impact learning; yet, reflection is CRITICAL to improving our practice. “The Devil is in the details.” (keeping accurate records) Frequency and type of family communication is part of our professional responsibilities. We must also be lifelong learners – particularly in areas that improve student learning.
14
Reviewing Domain 1: Planning & Preparation Key Points: Contains the components of an effective lesson plan. Helps make our own thinking (planning instructional decisions) visible. Educator expertise and knowledge related to content/pedagogy must be reflected in planning.
