Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
Leaves use light energy from the sun to produce glucose (sugar). Takes place in the chloroplasts. Write the equation for photosynthesis below: sunlight Carbon Dioxide + Water Sugar + Oxygen CO2 + H2O C6H12O6 + O2
3
Complete the table below with the raw materials and products of photosynthesis.
Carbon Dioxide CO2 Sugar (Glucose) C6H12O6 Water H2O Oxygen O2
4
What is the energy that drives the process of photosynthesis?
THE SUNLIGHT!!!
5
Cellular Respiration:
Releases energy from glucose (sugar). Occurs in ALL living cells, plant & animal… Write the equation for Respiration below: Sugar + Oxygen Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy C6H12O6 + O CO2 + H2O + Energy

Comparison of Photosynthesis and Respiration
Occurs in PLANT cells in the presence of chlorophyll and light. Occurs in all living cells day and night. PLANT & ANIMAL cells. Energy is stored in glucose (sugar). Energy released from glucose (sugar). Carbon dioxide and water are used to make glucose (sugar). Carbon dioxide and water and heat/energy are PRODUCED. Oxygen is PRODUCED. Oxygen is used.
8
Do plants undergo cellular respiration as well as photosynthesis? Why?
YES!!! All living cells go through cellular respiration!!! The energy is released from the sugar produced through photosynthesis during this process!!!
