5 Eligibility Students must be enrolled in a degree seeking program and at least 6 credits to be eligible. Please visit the academics page at www.csmd.edu/Academics for a list of eligible programs.www.csmd.edu/Academics Students cannot be in default on a student loan. You can view your current loan status online at www.nslds.ed.gov.www.nslds.ed.gov The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) is the U.S. Department of Education's (ED's) central database for student aid. NSLDS receives data from schools, guaranty agencies, the Direct Loan program, and other Department of ED programs. NSLDS Student Access provides a centralized, integrated view of Title IV loans and grants so that recipients of Title IV Aid can access and inquire about their Title IV loans and/or grant data

6 Academic Eligibility Students must be meeting academic standards, which include the following: a minimum GPA, a minimum successful completion percentage and successful progress towards degree completion. www.csmd.edu/Financial/AcademicGuidelines.html

7 Entrance/MPN Once signed in you will be selecting the links to complete your Entrance counseling and your Master Promissory Note Online Sign in to begin your loan process by selecting the green sign in button on the www.studentloans.gov site. www.studentloans.gov

8 Types of Direct Loans Subsidized - loans are need based, which means the Federal government will pay the interest on your loan while you are enrolled in school at half time status. Unsubsidized - loans are not need based, the Federal government does not pay the interest on the loan. Once funding is disbursed you are responsible for paying the interest. 9 Dependent Student You are considered a Dependent student if you are: Born After January 1, 1992 Not Married Not Active Duty or a Veteran of the U.S. Military Do not have children and/or dependents that receive more than half of their support from you. Independent Students To be considered Independent you must meet at least one criteria listed below Born Before January 1, 1992 Married Active Duty U.S. Military Veteran of the U.S. Military Have children or dependents that receive more than half of their support from you. 12 Aggregate Loan Limits Maximum Total Debt from Direct Loans Dependent - $31,000 —No more than $23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans. Independent - $57,500 —No more than $23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans. Note: The maximum total loan limits include any Subsidized Federal Direct Loans or Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans you may have received.

13 Repayment Repayment begins 6 Months after Program Completion or 6 months after you drop below 6 credits at a college or university.
