Struggling Economies People of Pakistan struggle to grow enough crops. Government encourages the modern way of growing crops but farmers prefer the traditional way. Most productive areas are irrigated parts of Indus valley. Main export is jute used for rope, carpets and industrial-quality sacks Substance farming

Struggling Economies Both Pakistan and Bangladesh are not industrialized. Most factories are relativity small. Lack of resources and markets for expansions. Has introduced microcredit, it allows small businesses to work together. Small industry

One Religion, Many People Most people at Pakistan and Bangladesh are Muslims. In both countries Islam Is an important unifying force. Religion in the region

Modern life and culture Many Pakistan's memorize long poems and can recite them by heart. The greatest literary figure in Bangladesh is the poet kahindranath Tagore. Love of poetry

Vocabulary Indus valley civilizations- an ancient civilization that flourished in the Indus river valley from about 2500 to 1500 B.C. extensive archaeological excavations at the main sites of moneojo-daro and Harappa in Pakistan. Partition- the action or state of divinity or being divided into parts. Kashmir- a former princely state in south west Asia adjacent to India, Pakistan, sin kiang, and Tibet; sovereignty in dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947.
