3 What is a Title I School? A school that receives funding from the U.S. Department of Education to meet the needs of at-risk and low-income students

4 Title I Nation’s oldest and largest federally funded program Must meet certain requirements set forth by the government to continue receiving funding

5 What is the purpose of Title I “…to ensure that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.” --U.S. Dept. of Education

6 How is a school identified as being Title I? Large concentration of low income students –Based on free and reduced lunch numbers Minimum of 40% of students must be enrolled in free and reduced lunch

7 How are funds spent at ELM? Teacher salaries Balance spent on things such as the following: technology equipment, books, computer software Parent Involvement

8 What are the requirements that ELP must meet to remain Title I? 40% of students must receive free or reduced lunch Complete an annual comprehensive Needs Assessment Complete a comprehensive plan using the results of the needs assessment Create a Parent Involvement Plan based on the results of the needs assessment

9 A School Wide Program Must Have: School Wide Reform Strategies Instruction by Highly Qualified Teachers Parental Involvement Additional Support for Students Transition Activities for Elementary and 8 th grade students

10 School Wide Goals  Students will increase CRCT scores for Reading, and ELA by 2%.  All other CRCT areas will increase scores by 5%.  Decrease the achievement gap in all core content areas by 5% between SWD and non-SWD.

14 Testing ELM participates in state mandated Georgia Milestones End of Grade Test in all core academic areas in all grade levels. ELM also participates in local Student Learning Objectives Test in grade level connections classes.

16 How does ELM use Testing Data? Show growth of CCGPS by the end of the school year Identify academically at-risk students for the purpose of Response to Intervention Support promotion and retention decisions

17 Parent Involvement The statute defines parental involvement as the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring— –that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning; –that parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school; –that parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child; and –that other activities are carried out, such as those described in section 1118 of the ESEA (Parental Involvement). 21 Is your child’s teacher qualified? EVERY classroom is required to be staffed by a teacher deemed “highly-qualified” under conditions set by the No Child Left Behind Act.
