Assessing Reflective Practice Introduction The focus of this module is on the reflective assessment of the development of the students own personal and professional skills when working with children/pupils and families. This is achieved by evaluating their own learning at University and in the workplace. As stated by Paige-Smith and Craft (2008,p.1) 'by engaging in reflective practice, we effectively become researchers of our working world'. One teacher says 'Critical teaching is about not just reflecting on practice, but through that, uncovering what it reveals about what we think and believe and an opportunity to find out exactly who we are doing things for and why, and to change and adapt if you need.' (McNaughton,2005,p.13)

Assessing Reflective Practice The assessing of the module Reflective Practice is a staged process: 1. Students are taught how to use Pebblepad 2. Students are introduced to “blogging” 3. Students are introduced to the assessment and working in small groups 4. Students are asked to contribute to the blogs, using the web quest, making individual blog entries, and to try to elicit responses from each other 5. Students are assessed on the quality of the individual blogs they produce 6. Students are encouraged to use reflection activities to discuss incidents in their workplace
