We will cover: -Focus Of Human Factors -Human Factors Emphasis - Human Factors’ Objectives -Human Factors Approach -Definition 2

3 Focus of Human Factors Human factors (or ERGONOMICS) focus on human beings and their interaction with: products, equipment, facilities, procedures, and environments used in work and everyday living.
4
Human factors emphasis On human beings and how the design of things influences people. Opposite to other engineering fields where the focus is on technical engineering considerations. human factors seek to change the things people use and the environments in which they use these things to better match the capabilities, limitations, and needs of people. 4
5
5 Human Factors’ objectives 1.Enhancing the effectiveness of work and activities: reducing errors increasing productivity. 2.Enhancing certain desirable human values: improving safety reducing stress & fatigue increasing comfort &job satisfaction, improving quality of life).
6
6 Human Factors Approach It is the systematic application of relevant information about human capabilities, limitations, characteristics, behavior, and motivation to the design of things and procedures people use and the environment in which they use them. It also involves the evaluation of things we design to ensure that they satisfy their intended objectives. Relevant information about humans and their responses to things, environments, etc is investigated scientifically.

7 Definition Human Factors discovers and applies information about human behavior, abilities, limitations, and other characteristics to the design of tools, machines, systems, tasks, jobs, and environments for productive, safe, comfortable, and effective human use.
