4 THE NATIONAL FOREST PROGRAMME FACILITY An innovative Partnership of developing countries, funding partners and FAO was created….. … to facilitate the implementation of national forest programmes. - It is called the NFP Facility -

5 THE NATIONAL FOREST PROGRAMME FACILITY The Facility is a new approach towards Sustainable Forest Management Away from projects Country led Informed participation of stakeholders The Facility has 3 strategic orientations: Building a national consensus Integrating forestry into poverty reduction Integrating international commitments

6 THE NATIONAL FOREST PROGRAMME FACILITY The Facility supports: Partner countries and their interest groups, through grants, to further the nfp process nfp practitioners world-wide, through global knowledge management initiatives

7 THE NATIONAL FOREST PROGRAMME FACILITY Catalytic Support Actions nfps = dynamic Processes responsive to change Capacity building, human & institutional Policy and institutional reforms Championing the forestry sector Mobilizing national and international financial resources

9 THE NATIONAL FOREST PROGRAMME FACILITY Funding per Partner country US$ 300,000 per country, on average for a 3-year period Funds for Grants provided to nfp stakeholders Grants to be spent on Workshops, fora, and training Policy analysis and specific studies Information sharing initiatives

13 THE NATIONAL FOREST PROGRAMME FACILITY The Facility is hosted by FAO, and operates with A core staff at the HQ of FAO The active support of FAO Regional nfp Advisors, and additional Regional Facilitators The FAO Forestry Department at large

15 THE NATIONAL FOREST PROGRAMME FACILITY 46 partnerships (42 ctries. & 4 Sub- regional organizations) US$ 5 million allocated in partner countries and to partner organizations 200 Facility grants to stakeholders, of which 75% in civil society Achievements
