We have ~58 servers within the domain. Exchange2Exchange1 mail.andover.edu Bboardapp1 panet.andover.edu ANDOVER Storage Servers

Active Directory Service Profile Your username and password Your documents – My Documents folder Your desktop preferences Your access rights.
5
Profile Types We use 3 types of profiles here on campus: Folder Redirects Folder Redirection with Offline files Roaming
6
Profile Details 1.Folder Redirect – Students and Faculty ReasonExperience Travel around public computing facilities Fast log on/off Storage on server only During logon, the profile downloads to the computer and gives the user access to their documents that are stored on the server. During logoff, changes are stored on the server and DO NOT store on the local drive.
7
Profile Details 2.Folder Redirect with Offline Files - Some Faculty ReasonExperience Travel around public computing facilities Fast log on/off Storage on server Works with Offline Files as set up on a particular laptop When the user logs on to a public computer or any computer on the domain, the experience is the same as a redirect. The documents are stored only to the server. BUT, when the user logs into a laptop that was specifically provided for their use, and has offline files set up, the experience is the same as a roaming profile.
8
Profile Details 3.Roaming - All Staff and Some Faculty ReasonExperience One to One relationship with a computer. Slower Log on, when not using assigned computer. Synchronizes with the server on logon and logoff. Documents are stored on EVERY computer that the roaming user logs into, as well as backed up on the server User can accidentally corrupt their profile by logging in someplace they did long ago
9
Questions re: Profiles Why wouldn’t we make all users ROAMING? Why not make everyone REDIRECTS?
10
Login Script Drive mapping to your department share Printer mappings (queues only) Capture of user and computer login information, which dumps into a log file Launch of a local service to report information on user/computer port activity on the switch
11
Storage Services On the Domain each server has folders for its constituents. Each person has at least 2 folders that they have access to: H – Home (My Documents) S – Share (Department Documents)
12
Saving to the Storage Servers ANDOVER DOMAIN By saving to the My Documents folder on any academy owned, Windows computer, directly connected to the network Your documents will be saved to the server on Logout!
13
Login syncs Down from server Logout syncs Up from computer Synchronization - Backup Roaming Profiles
14
Laptop Use 1. 1.Logout of your Desktop machine 2. 2.Login on the laptop, while connected to the academy network 3. 3.Logout of the laptop, while connected to the academy network 4. 4.Leave for your trip with laptop containing your documents
