One of the most popular attractions is the Christ the redeemer statue in Rio.
A larger-than-life statue of Jesus Christ with his arms outstretched, a symbol of peace that stands almost 40 meters high. The statue is perched above Rio de Janeiro, on the 700-meter high Corcovado mountain. It offers spectacular views of downtown Rio de Janeiro, the bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana beach, and Ipanema Beach.

The statue stands 98 feet (30 metres) tall. The statue is the largest Art Deco-style sculpture in the world. It is one of Rio de Janeiro’s most recognizable landmarks. Most visitors take a vertical cog train to reach the base of the summit. From there, visitors to the monument once had to climb hundreds of steps to reach the top. Construction of the statue began in 1922 and it was completed in 1931. It stands 98 feet (30 metres) tall and its horizontally outstretched arms spanning 92 feet (28 metres). The statue is the largest Art Deco-style sculpture in the world and is one of Rio de Janeiro’s most recognizable landmarks. It is located at the peak of the 700-metre (2,300 feet) Corcovado mountain. Sugarloaf received its name in the 17th century, due to its resemblance to the cone shaped blocks of unrefined sugar that were prepared for shipment from Brazil to Portugal. The Sugarloaf Mountain is a tall 395 meter peak. Right at the top, tourists will have the chance of their lifetime to capture photo opportunities of the sparkling Rio beaches, statue of Christ the redeemer and the green forests.
