Note-Taking
2
Step 1 Try to sit as close to the front of the class as you can. If this isn’t possible, sit where you can see the teacher at all times.
3
Step 2 Use focused listening. Look at the teacher and try to clear your mind of what you are thinking about. Have a positive attitude. After you listen for a period of time, you should feel tired; after all, listening is an activity.
4
Step 3 Listen 80% of the time and write 20% of the time.
5
Step 4 Begin each note taking session on a new page of paper. Start by writing down your first and LAST name, class period, and a title for the notes.
6
Step 5 Keep your notes organized. Use a separate spiral bound notebook for each subject or use a notebook with divider sections.
7
Step 6 Don’t try to write down everything the teacher says. Try to record as many facts and ideas as you can. Mark the most important things with a star or color code them.
8
Step 7 Use abbreviations to shorten some words. etc
9
Step 8 Concentrate on the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How words when you take notes.
10
Step 9 Review your notes the day you take them and regularly.
11
Step 10 Write assignments and tests with due dates in the same place for all your classes. (Planner)
