Sediment dispersal in the foreland sedimentary system in southwestern Taiwan 俞何興 臺大海洋研究所

Intraslope Basin Basins are located on the continental slopes. Intraslope basins form in a slope region where the salt diapirism ( mud diapirism, growth faulting, etc) produce uplift of adjacent areas, creating a depression ( basin between local highs).

Staging-area concept E. Mutti et al./Marine and Petroleum Geology 20 (2003) 523-526
21
Sediment carried by high-gradient river systems to relatively small alluvial and coastal plains and narrow shelves of convergent margins; some large floods may carry significant volume of sediment directly from fluvial drainage basins to deep waters without intermediate staging areas. (i.e., delta)
22
Conclusions: Source: small mountainous basin (3250 km); small mountainous river Sink: Kaoping shelf-slope (intra-slope basins) River-Canyon Connection (by- pass sediment pathway)
23
Point source: submarine canyon Line source: coastlines; shelf edges Sediment dispersal path: from the mountain top (Yushan 3952 m) to the deep sea trench (Manila Trench, 3600 m)
