4. United Nations Millennium Development Goal 5 (MDG5) GOAL 5: Improve Maternal Health Target 1: Reduce by three quarters between 1990 and 2015, the maternal mortality ratio. Target 2: Achieve universal access to reproductive health.

5. FYI Each year more than 500 000 women die during pregnancy or childbirth, almost all of them in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Health-care interventions can reduce maternal deaths, but need to be made more widely available. No single intervention can address the multiple causes of maternal deaths

6. Invest in Women- it pays Women Deliver Initiative launched in 2007 With increased political will and adequate financial investment, most women and newborns can survive so that families, communities and nations can thrive. Women Deliver engages with influential policy makers and budget planners from donor country and developing governments, multi-lateral agencies, and foundations to mobilize increased funding allocations for maternal health.

7. Skilled Care Initiative (SCI) Launched in 2000 with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Five-year operations research project in four rural, under-served districts in Burkina Faso, Kenya and Tanzania

8. Youth Peer Education Programs Target out of school youths. Collaborate with local organizations, government, communities. Difficulty in evaluating long term behavior change. Currently have active peer education programs in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.

9. Publications FCI have developed a wide range of informational and training materials that partners can use to improve the quality of their services and strengthen reproductive and sexual health programs. An example of an FCI publication is: You, Your Life, Your Dreams: A Book for Adolescents which has been published in several languages
