2 Multi-layered: Why?  A navigation mesh for path planning and crowd simulation  Existing automatic+exact navigation meshes only work in 2D  Many realistic environments consist of multiple connected layers  We need a multi-layered navigation mesh

3 Our navigation mesh  We build the medial axis of a multi-layered environment, incrementally –Build the medial axis of each 2D layer –Merge the medial axes around the connections –Construction is fast and automatic!
