How do you do this? Think about who needs the expertise of SHRP? –State agencies –Health care providers –Insurers –School Districts Understand their funding mechanisms –RFPs, RLIs, State register Relationships

How to approach? Build on your own contacts Start among the people you know –Clinicians –Clinical faculty –Graduates Work as a team if possible Use your alliance with state associations Ask for meetings –“Fortune is a friend to the bold” –We’re between being seen as a state agency and privatization

How to approach? Make yourself a pest? Let it be known you (your department, program) are a potential resource to them and you are approachable! Has to be couched in how you will meet their needs Develop thick skin Later, they may approach you

Benefits to Researchers and Clinicians State and other agencies rarely fund research, but they want (or tolerate) evaluation, which we should do for every project This program evaluation is a form of research or at least scholarship “Spin-offs” of projects for scholarly activity Spin-off of consultations, other services Directly building on these contacts and projects and your success
