June 24, 2005 Kou Yang – Japan Studies Institute 2005 The Project To enable students to compare and contrast the experiences of Japanese minorities and those of minorities in the United States through the discipline of Ethnic Studies. Ethnic Studies: culture, history, and perspective (interdisciplinary studies) –Students are asked to look at the experiences of minority groups from both the majority and minority perspectives.

Historical Background; - Colonization and annexation - Migration/immigration patterns 2. Educational, socio-economic and political experiences. 3. Minority policies. 4. Prejudice and stereotypes of minorities. 5. Minority-majority relations.
