1 National Geospatial Advisory Committee/ Geospatial Line of Business Update FGDC Coordination Group Meeting January 15, 2008

2 2 National Geospatial Advisory Committee Current Status Committee approval package was approved/signed by Secretary Kempthorne – December ‘07 Federal Register notice announcing establishment of committee was posted on January 11. FR notice includes: Certification that committee is in the public interest 15 day period for public comment

3 3 National Geospatial Advisory Committee Next Steps Following 15 day Fed. Register comment period (on January 28), NGAC charter will be submitted to GSA. Filing charter with GSA “officially” establishes NGAC under FACA rules Appointment letters will be issued to committee members on/or about January 28 Press release announcing appointments will be issued by DOI Announcement/roll-out at FGDC Steering Committee meeting on January 29 Initial organizational committee meetings (develop bylaws, procedures, etc.) will be held after committee is established Public meetings will be scheduled following initial organizational meetings – Spring 2008

4 4 Geo LoB Major Tasks - FY 08/09 *From FY 2009 Joint Business Case Task 1: Review/Update FGDC Guidance Documents Task 2: Evaluate and define the nine stages of the geospatial data life cycle and identify common capabilities to allow cost-benefit ROI for shared services Task 3: Define and establish A-16 data steward lifecycle responsibilities and performance measures Task 4: Expand smart-buy (and alternatives) efforts for geospatial data and technologies Task 5: Develop outreach programs to demonstrate the value of “place based” approaches and geospatial technology Task 6: Develop and implement common grants language for geospatial information and services Task 7: Develop and implement geospatial requirements language for Federal contracts (FAR, DFAR) Task 8: Implement MOUs/SLAs/ELAs for common geospatial services Task 9: Develop requirements and recommendations for technology and telecommunications infrastructure required to deliver geospatial services Task 10: Provide a broker service for data searching among agencies which will build on and improve existing systems
