1
Constructing Product Forms Basic Concepts in Datum, Origin, and Measurement
2
Observations We can easily recognise the product type when the RELATIONS and PROPORTIONS of the chunks are correct
3
Observations Minor details can be eliminated without affecting our form perception
4
Discussion If the previous statements are true, what is their implication on Styrofoam prototyping for form exploration?
5
Discussion Serrated silhouette with few details or simple silhouette with many details. Details group together. Internal edges aligned to one or two directions. Everything snap to an invisible ‘grid’.
6
Discussion Voids are important to composition because they create contrast. Equally spaced elements, no matter how different in shape, look similar. Shades add weight to a composition, thus should be considered together with formal elements

Activity – Geometrical Form Design a very simple form by combining 1 cube, 1 cubical hollow, 1 cylinders and 1 cylindrical hollow. You might give your form a purpose (e.g. vase, desk lamp, etc.) but don’t let yourself drown in the functionality, keep focus on the form Start by making a 2 blocks composition and then fine-tuning the proportion The form should be distinctive and good looking On one A4 paper, draw at least 6 perspective view of your design from different angle, apply colour shading to your views, maintain consistence between views + = ?
