Oct. 30, 2007 LCLS FAC D. Fairley MATLAB Feedback Phase II Commissioning

Oct. 30, 2007 LCLS FAC D. Fairley Topics First Commissioning Results Feedbacks for Phase II New Block Diagram New Requirements Plan and Schedule

Oct. 30, 2007 LCLS FAC D. Fairley First Commissioning Longitudinal Feedback working successfully. Currently implemented as 3 different feedbacks DL1 Energy (or to Spect. Dump) DL2 and BC2 Energies DL1, BC2 Energies + BC2 Bunch length Injector Launch Feedback working successfully Feedback framework allowed significant configurability during commissioning. Developed a good working relationship with physicists (J. Frisch, J. Wu) and good understanding of feedback systems for LCLS

Oct. 30, 2007 LCLS FAC D. Fairley Feedbacks for Phase II Bunch Charge Longitudinal will expand to include BC2 energy, BC2 Bunch Length and DL2 Energy L2 Launch L3 Launch

Oct. 30, 2007 LCLS FAC D. Fairley LCLS – Accelerator and Bunch Compressor Schematic

Oct. 30, 2007 LCLS FAC D. Fairley New Block Diagram

Oct. 30, 2007 LCLS FAC D. Fairley Feedbacks for Phase II Decision: Feedbacks implemented in framework will be ‘EPICS only.’ Additional Feedbacks in MATLAB Bunch Charge Longitudinal will expand to include BC2 Energy and BC2 Bunch Length We have 3 EPICS BPMs for longitudinal; allows 5x5 fully EPICS Feedbacks in SLC DL2 Energy L2 and L3 Launch

Oct. 30, 2007 LCLS FAC D. Fairley New Requirements Create a more production oriented feedback system Separate ‘Configuration’ from runtime feedbacks. Make feedback controllable from any kiosk Display more status and enhance alarms Automatically switch configurations Make feedbacks detect beam line conditions and switch configuration accordingly For example, TD11 stopper status, magnet power supply settings, etc Add weighting factors to transverse feedback algorithm Add a mask matrix to longitudinal feedback algorithm Runtime adjustment of gains, weighting factors, mask matrix Place these in soft IOC so they can be changed while feedback is running.

Oct. 30, 2007 LCLS FAC D. Fairley Plan and Schedule Make Feedback more ‘production’ oriented Separate Configuration, make controllable from any kiosk - done Status in EDM, alarms – October, in progress Bunch charge feedback October, In progress – must be ready to commission in December Algorithm enhancements (gains, weighting, mask matrix) Longitudinal – November Transverse – November-December Automatic configuration switching December Experimental testing with mask matrix, weighting Jan – May, when we can get machine time Experimental testing with changing beam line conditions Jan – May, when we can get machine time
