2 Optics Production completed All megatiles for L01-L16 have been produced, passed QC, sent to CERN PPP reworks (L01-L03, L15, L09, L16, L00) completed We have completed production of L00, HB- megatiles W16 tests completed, rework under way

3 W16 and HB- rework, details Damaged W16 megatiles + 8 additional megatiles (rejected during insertion into HB-) have been inspected Only two W16 megatiles (L15_s1, L15_s4) need to be repaired, work under way Will be shipped back to CERN early January 2002

4 Remaining Optics jobs HE ODU testing using UIC scanner HO ODU building+ polishing+ QC L00 pigtail scanning, assembly (HB+) UV mirror protection (for HO WLS fibers) QC HE pins, screws Optical Cables for HB, PPP and B186

5 Time estimates for Optics Best estimate for completion of all optics jobs: 70 man-weeks With 7 techs in lab5, the goal date is end of February 2002. Large fraction of optics job is QC of ODU ‘cables’ (15 m-weeks) and building of HB cables (32 m-weeks)

6 RBX integration: short term goals two HB RBXes (with QIE electronics and magnets to mimic 0.4Tesla field for test beam HE RBXes with d0 electronics, for testing of megatiles will only be needed in late Sept 02 still waiting for a confirmation of the installation schedule for HE from Lucien (Apr - Aug 02 ?) ODUs for HO (20deg) to be installed inside HB RBX shells

7 RBX integration: long term plans Collect all inventory of parts for RBX assembly by later March 02 1.Mississippi: RBX shells 2.Notre Dame: ODUs, RM mechanics 3. FSU: calibration boxes 4. Minnesota: HPDs (+testing, + mounting) 5.Lab5 (UR, FNAL): HV, LV 6. FNAL: electronics elements available Mar-02

Mississippi: RBX shells First HB RBX shell machined, sent to FNAL for verification Full production approved week ago, will begin this week (Dec-17-2001) Complete full HB production (40 shells) by the end of February 2002 (est. as of Dec 15, 2001) Need to approve design of HE RBX shell in December in order to allow for the full production of HE RBX shells Plan to complete HE RBX shells by Apr ‘02

9 2. Notre Dame: ODUs Most of the 40 HB ODUs produced Quality control: in process, typical RMS at the level of 3%, some ODUs need to be re- made HE ODU prototype work started

FSU: CalBoxes Lab5 is making all internal PS cables needed for HB, HE and HO CalBoxes New design of CalBox (4channels) will be evaluated at FNAL/CERN (HB+ tests in B186) We do not want to make external calibration cables yet (need to verify lengths, routing scheme, at some point we have thought of 0.83mm cables)

11 4. Minnesota: HPDs DEP to start delivering HPDs to U. Minn. In Oct ’01 Finish delivery for HB in June ’02 Need 8 HPDs in early ‘02 (February) for integration/testing in lab5 Delivery to Lab5 for HB production in early March ‘02

12 HPD details 484 HPDs with HV filter and connector, mounted in custom alignment ring 530 Interface carts (HPD to QIE) 480 ODU cookies and cookie alignment mount HPD delivery to FNAL: First 10 at Feb 15 '02, last Dec 1 '03 Interface Carts to FNAL: Unsolved problem: We need HPD to QIE routing for HB before Jan 1 for TB 02 Cookies and mounts to ND: HB is complete

13 5. Lab5 (UR/FNAL): HV Presently finalizing design for HV systems First prototypes being built using Lab5 personnel (Jaska, Sasha) Begin production in sometime in Feb-Mar ’02, depending on the load of Optics work Parts being ordered for HB and HE right now

14 6. Electronics Production chips coming in May/June 02 Testing of chips in June/July Testing of cards in October Assembly of RMs: October onward

15 Lab 5 Manpower plans

16 jobs between completion of the Optics task and the arrival of Electronics parts HV units for HB and HE (40+40) HV distributors for HB + HE boxes Assembly of HB readout boxes, including pressure tests (need input from Dan K.) VCSEL assembly (need input from Julie W.) Note HO RBX parts only defined in Aug/Sept 02

17 Lab5 Personnel Keep 7 techs until Optics is fully completed, target date end of Feb-02 Reduce to 5 Rochester people in Mar-02 Todd working only on ‘hourly’ bases for RBX procurement tasks Ewa on 30-50% load until Optics ends
